Photography

I started taking pictures when I was in high school, but my passion for photography began when I became a photojournalist for a political newspaper. Timing was everything, and I had a knack for seeing the big picture and being in the right place at the right time.

Photojournalism eventually gave way to fine art photography and a love for working in the darkroom. I discovered that I loved sharing my knowledge with people and realized that I should be teaching.

For a number of years I taught classroom, darkroom, and field courses for Bay Photo in addition to providing private instruction.

I get excited by looking through a lens and inspiring others to create and reach their full potential.

Guitar

As a kid, I remember watching an older schoolmate playing guitar at a local party. People were gathered around loving it, and I thought, “One day, I’m going to be able to do that!” At fourteen, I got a used acoustic guitar, and, by seventeen, I had formed a band and started playing high school parties. This led to playing events and local music venues with popular groups.

I have always loved improvisation and apply it to my solos. I enjoy playing a variety of musical styles, including rock, progressive rock, jazz rock, blues, funk, reggae, bluegrass and folk.

I have taught guitar to many students using my fun and sensitive approach, and I have enjoyed watching students of all ages and levels progress.
